Of Heroes, Helmets and Hoses
Bill Adams was commissioned to compile a book, "Of Heroes, Helmets and Hoses",
an official history of the London Ontario Fire Department. Published in
2003, the first press run of 250 of the hardbound, coffee-table quality books
was available for $65 at the central firehall on Horton Street in London.
The book commemorates the fire department's 130th anniversary.
It is a richly illustrated book which traces the department from the
bucket-carrying volunteer brigades to a modern operation that costs the city $31
million a year to operate with a staff of 400.
